Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) has exploded onto the scene of regenerative medicine in the past several years. It was made famous in sports medicine for helping with Kobe Bryant’s nagging knee injury and Alex Rodriguez had a similar treatment with successful outcomes. It has also found its place in aesthetic medicine and beauty treatments when Kim Kardashian had the “vampire facial” in Miami.
Why PRP?
Your blood consists of solid cells, including red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets, which are suspended in a liquid called plasma. The platelets contain hundreds of “growth factors,” which are proteins that play a vital role in the body’s natural healing process.
We take the patient’s blood and spin it in a centrifuge, which separates the different components. We discard red blood cells and much of the plasma, leaving a high concentration of platelets and growth factors.
Applying PRP to the face with the help of microneedling breaks up uneven pigmentation and stimulates new collagen and elastin formation to improve thinning skin and restore the elasticity of your skin.
What is Microneedling?
Microneedling is a minimally-invasive treatment that can improve texture and firmness of the skin, and reduce pore size and the appearance of scars and stretch marks. The treatment uses an automated, fractional micro-needling device after applying topical anesthesia. The treatment involves fine needles creating tiny punctures in the top layer of the skin. We use the first FDA-Cleared microneedling device in the world – The SkinPen
Once performed, we apply PRP topically to supercharge the body to create new collagen and elastin. The newly formed collagen increases the thickness and strength of the skin and the elastin increases skin tightness.
Is The Vampire Facial For Me?
Uneven skin texture and tone can occur as a result of diminished blood flow – making you look tired or worn. A Vampire Facial can help address skin quality, texture, and tone! Additionally, if you have fine wrinkles or sunken areas on your face you’d like to address, a Vampire Facial may be for you. The treatment is safe for all skin types.
There is minimal downtime with Vampire Facials. Following the procedure, some swelling, redness, and bruising is expected. However, most patients return to work the next day. We recommend you avoid sunlight and UV exposure for a day or two after the procedure and use sunscreen anytime you go outside.
You will notice changes to your skin tone and texture right away. Optimal results of the treatment, however, will reveal themselves over the next three months after the procedure when newly formed collagen and elastin has lifted and firmed your face. And many patients enjoy the visible results of their Vampire Facial for 12-24 months following the procedure.
